Local Fall Activities

Local Fall Activities

Our communities are brimming with amazing fall activities for the entire family—so much so that it is impossible to name them all here! Whether boisterous festivals or solo hikes are your thing, there is something for everyone in this post.

If you know where to look, you can find many great community events to attend in the fall! If you like sweet treats, rides, and games, a festival might be a great option for you.

  • The 2023 Circleville Pumpkin Show is a great time for the entire family. Running from October 18– 21, the Pumpkin Show offers a wide variety of pumpkin treats as well as offerings from local organizations and charities!
  • The 2023 Trail of Scarecrows is also a great option in Fairfield County. Visit https://visitfairfieldcounty.org/listing/trail-of-scarecrows/ to learn more and to download the map of scarecrows throughout 14 communities in Fairfield County!
  • Finally, fall dinners and events are happening in all communities. If you would like to attend some local charity events, check out the website of your favorite organization to learn more. The PICCA Toys for Tots Chili Cook-Off in Pickaway County is always a great one, along with Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Bonanza in October.

Our communities have no shortage of beautiful outdoor spaces to take in. One excellent fall outdoor activity is hiking. Take in the fresh air and turning leaves and get some exercise at your favorite local park!

  • Canal Park in Circleville, Rising Park in Lancaster, and Deer Creek State Park all offer beautiful trails.
  • Farm visits are also a great way to pack in a lot of outdoor fall activities. Some farms open their doors during the fall and offer things like sunflower picking, pumpkin patches, apple picking, hayrides, corn mazes, and many more activities great for all age groups.
  • Another great activity is collecting fall leaves. Go on a family walk and collect a wide variety of fall leaves for arts and crafts or décor.

Fall fun can happen indoors, too! Here are a few more ideas for fall activities.

  • Remember those leaves we collected up above? Leaves can be used for creative paper crafts. Or, for more experienced craftspeople, fall leaves could be combined with resin to create coasters. There is no limit to things you can do!
  • Another great indoor activity is to host a family dinner or get together. Football season provides an excellent opportunity to have some people over for fun and food, or you could host a warm and cozy potluck where everyone brings a dish. You can even make it fun by providing a theme. Some great themes to consider are comfort food, chocolate-only, or creative charcuterie boards.
  • Lastly, visiting your local library is one of the best indoor activities for people of any age. Not only do libraries often host great events, but there is no shortage of things to keep a person occupied. Depending on your library’s offerings, you can read books, watch movies, meet educational speakers, and more! Check out your local library’s website for more information.

No matter what you choose to do this fall, you are sure to have some great fun! All of these activities offer community enrichment, quality time, and personal growth. Happy fall from The Savings Bank!
