Get Ready for Fall
Fall is a great time for seasonal cleaning, outdoor activities, and community outreach. As the first few days of fall trickle in, make sure you start planning the things you need to do, want to do, and should do this fall!
Unfortunately, the upcoming winter months require you to do some work beforehand to ensure proper care of your home during the harsh weather. While your responsibilities will differ depending on your home, here are some things you might need to take care of this season:
Gutter Cleaning: Gutter cleaning is probably the least favorite task of any homeowner, and for good reason. However, between the fall leaves and rainy weather, it is essential to take care of your gutters.
Change Furnace Filters: The beginning of fall is a strange time where you may put on your heater in the morning but need the air conditioner by the afternoon! Make sure your furnace filter is changed out—you may even need to change it twice!
Put Away Outdoor Furniture: If you live in an area with a lot of rain or snow in the winter, make sure you cover or put away your outdoor furniture in the fall. This will extend the lifetime of the furniture and make sure it doesn’t get damaged in storms.
Winter Tires: Depending on the climate in your area, it may be a good idea to purchase snow tires, or at least double check to make sure your tires are in good condition and do not need rotation. Make sure you perform any needed repairs before the ice and snow start.
Fall can be a lot of fun, too! Take advantage of the activities you can only do during the fall season.
Apple Picking: There’s just nothing quite like visiting an apple orchard and picking your own apples while sipping some apple cider or your favorite hot beverage. It’s a great activity for the whole family, and you can sometimes combine a visit to the pumpkin patch and apple-picking all in one trip!
Decorating: Even if you do not like the end of summer, it can be a lot of fun to pull out fall blankets and candles. Take this time to decorate your home with all your favorite cozy things. After all, is there any better time to spend some evenings at home than in the fall?
Canning & Baking: A beach trip may be a preferable way to spend your time in the summer, but the fall is an excellent time to get reacquainted with your kitchen. It’s never too early to bake (and eat!) a pumpkin pie.
Lastly, fall is the perfect time for community outreach. You may feel with all the vacations and obligations that take you away from home during the summer that you have fallen out of touch with your community. Use the fall to reconnect!
Volunteer: As the weather gets colder, there are many opportunities to help those in need. Volunteering at your local shelter or making donations of food or clothing are a great way to help those in need in your community.
Attend Local Events: Local events are a great way to rejoin your community. Go to a high school football game or a local festival and speak to those around you. You might even find a good opportunity to volunteer.
Ask a Neighbor: You may know people in your neighborhood who need help with some of the tasks in the first part of this post. Reach out to give where help is needed! No good deed is too small.
What are your plans this fall?
