Volunteer Opportunities in Your Community
Volunteering is a mutually beneficial activity, improving the community while also providing both professional and personal development to the volunteer. When you volunteer, you save resources, bring people together, strengthen your community, and give back to others. Below is some information to help you volunteer in your community!
- Serve Ohio
Serve Ohio is a great resource for those looking to volunteer in Ohio. Run by the Ohio Commission on Service and Volunteerism, they provide many great resources to get you connected to opportunities! They also provide information on grants and funding, as well as youth opportunities. Visit https://serve.ohio.gov/volunteering to learn more.
- Community Leaders
Community leaders are excellent sources of local information. People involved in the county Chamber of Commerce, faith leaders, and local government organizers are often the best people to ask! Before you reach out to discuss, make sure you have an idea of what types of service you would like to do.
- Neighbors, Coworkers, and Friends
Many people around you already volunteer in the community. By asking your neighbors, coworkers, and friends about where they volunteer, you can find many opportunities and may even get a partner to volunteer with. Furthermore, they can walk you through the sign-up process and introduce you to anyone you need to speak with to learn more. Also, if you have a community outreach representative at your place of employment, they may have some initiatives that they need volunteers for.
- Social Media
Social Media continues to be an excellent resource for community-based information. Look around at upcoming community events. You may be able to volunteer for these events, or you might be able to see what organizations are active in your community. There are also groups you can join that will alert you to new volunteer opportunities.
- Local Newspapers
Newspapers are an excellent source of local happenings. Many newspapers now publish online and have excellent search tools for users. Often, newspapers will run stories on active organizations and their recent events. They will also provide contact information for those interested in getting involved. You may even find organizations seeking volunteers in the classifieds or in interviews.
If you are looking to get involved in your community, consider reaching out to one of the above resources. Here at The Savings Bank, we greatly value giving back to our communities and hope to inspire others to do so as well. Thank you to all our volunteers and organizations working to make our communities better!
