Spotlight On: Roundtown Players? Movie Series

Spotlight On: Roundtown Players’ Movie Series

This week we spoke with Roundtown Players and Team TSB member Justin Atkinson about an exciting new project coming to Circleville! Be sure you check out the full interview for a sneak peek at what to expect, as well as how to get in contact for more information.

Q: First, can you introduce yourself and your role with Roundtown Players?

A: I am an actor, director, the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors, and the Committee Chair for Roundtown Reels, our new film program.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about this project and how it came to be?

A: In 2019 the Board of Directors decided to research the possibility of having a film screen installed to show films in between our live productions. He received a quote from a Columbus company that specializes in making and installing film screens and projection systems, but before we were able to start any fundraising the pandemic shut our doors for a year. We were finally able to reopen in 2020 and we began fundraising. Earlier this year a local contractor was able to provide us with a quote to purchase and install a system that not only suited our budget but allowed for multiple uses of the screen. We approved to take the project in that direction and the screen and projectors have been installed. We can use the screen for the backdrop of our current production of the musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” and in August we will begin showing movies.

Q: What can people expect schedule-wise and film selection wise?

A: Our immediate goal is to show films two weekends a month in between our live productions. August is the theater’s 56th anniversary, so we are celebrating with films that were released in 1967. The first movie will be Disney’s “The Jungle Book,” followed by a double feature of “Godzilla” and “Son of Godzilla,” and the musical “Camelot”.  We plan to show a variety of films with the hopes that there will be something for everyone. We are focusing more on films that are family friendly because we want this program to provide a safe entertaining space to Pickaway County’s youth. We also realize that adults need a place share film experiences so on Friday, October 13th we are showing “Freddy Vs. Jason.” We hope that this program will not only reach Pickaway County residents but will also help our restaurants and tourist businesses by bringing in people from surrounding counties.

Q: Is there anything else you would like people to know?

A: Roundtown Players is located on the second floor of Memorial Hall at 165 East. Main Street. We are a volunteer based non-profit organization that is open and inclusive to all.

Q: How can people find more information or send questions?

A: Our website is roundtownplayers.org, and we will be updating the film schedule there as well as our Facebook page. If you have specific questions, you can email us at [email protected]

Thank you, Justin. We cannot wait for Roundtown Reels to start!
